About StagecoachSmart
Stagecoach Group is leading the way in delivering greener, smarter and better value travel options for millions of passengers every day. The Group became the first transport operator in the UK to pioneer the use of smart card technology on both its bus and rail operations and is continue to deliver smarter ticketing for its customers.
In 2010, Stagecoach became the first major UK bus operator to complete the installation of ITSO-enabled smartcard readers on its entire bus fleet (around 7,000 vehicles) outside London. In London, all 1400 of Stagecoach's buses accept Transport for London's Oyster Card.
The Group was the first to launch smartcard on rail services at its South West Trains franchise in 2008 and in 2010 became the first UK bus operator to launch its own smartcard scheme across two operating companies - Cambridgeshire and Oxfordshire. In May 2011, Stagecoach's smartcard scheme was also launched in Manchester and in June 2011 it was launched across East Kent & East Sussex.
Following a successful trial, South West Trains now has live ITSO smart ticketing at around 100 stations and Stagecoach has also introduced ITSO smart ticketing - again using StagecoachSmart travel cards - at 26 stations on its East Midlands Tains franchise with plans to continue expanding the service going forward. In March 2012, Stagecoach announced the start of an integrated bus-rail smartcard pilot in Basingstoke which allows passengers to store their South West Trains rail ticket and a Stagecoach South Megarider bus ticket on one StagecoachSmart travel card.
StagecoachSmart is the new way of buying and using online tickets from Stagecoach, adding security and convenience. Stagecoach has a long-term plan to roll-out StagecoachSmart travel cards across the UK and also plans to introduce new ticket products that provide even more flexible options for travel so passengers can continue to enjoy greener, smarter travel on board Stagecoach services.
